Topic: "Case Study: Light Flicker-Application of IEEE 1453"

This presentation will share a utility’s experience in serving a flicker emitting load. Service recently started at an electric arc furnace. The operation of the furnace contributed significant flicker levels to the system. SRP received numerous complaints from residential customers concerning flickering lights. The flicker correlated to the operation of the furnace. Points of measurement and conclusions based on interpretation of IEEE 1453 will be discussed.

Speaker Bio:
Mike Chandler has worked in SRP's Power Quality Services (PQS) for twelve years. During his tenure as a Power Quality Specialist he has participated in numerous customer site power quality investigations. PQS helps SRP's customers resolve beyond the meter equipment operation issues. This service is one of the catalysis that helped SRP win fourteen JD Power Awards for Excellent Customer Service.
