Advanced Diagnostic Testing of Power Transformers

Date: Thursday, October 23rd, 2014

Location: SRP Information Services Building (ISB), 1600 N Priest Dr, Tempe, AZ 85281

Speaker: Drew Welton, OMICRON Electronics Corp.

Topic: "Advanced Diagnostic Testing of Power Transformers"

Dielectric or de-energized testing of power transformers has been a common practice for many years, typically utilized for assessing the health of this expensive and critical asset. Together with routine dissolved gas analysis, or DGA, we can hopefully predict and avoid catastrophic failure. However, it is only recently that more advanced methods have been introduced to the industry as the results of better designed test equipment. This presentation identifies three advanced dielectric testing methods to better diagnose areas of concern within the transformer.
