Case Study 1 -
Topic: Chilled water and High Tech Security
Speaker: Bob Sheppard, Southwest Energy Systems
Summary: How power quality issues adversely effected both, when neither company wanted to admit any fault or wrongdoing. A case of how power quality issues almost delayed the opening of a new hospital.
Biography: Bob Sheppard is the Founder, President, and General Manager of Southwest Energy Systems; a NETA (InterNational Electrical Testing Association) accredited testing and engineering firm based primarily out of Phoenix, Arizona. He has been helping to expand, shape, develop and refine the standards and best practices of the constantly evolving industry for over a decade. Bob is an active participant within the NETA organization and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors. He has also been actively involved with IAEA and many other standards developing committees. Bob graduated from Idaho State University with a technical degree in power generation with a heavy emphasis on power distribution and emergency systems. Bob has held positions within various system reliability companies including Electrical Reliability Services (Emerson) and Electric Power Systems, as well as power generation companies such as Kohler Power Systems, Empire (Caterpillar) and Cummins.

Case Study 2 -
Topic: Harmonics at the New York Stock Exchange
Speaker: Dr. Michael Stringfellow, PowerCET
Biography: Prior to joining PowerCET, Dr. Stringfellow held the positions of Chief Scientist and Director of Research for EFI Corporation. Other experiences include 9 years with the Electric Supply Commission (Eskom) in South Africa, and work with Kearney National and Atlantic Scientific Corporation. His research has focused on lightning surges and their impact on commercial and industrial facilities, and utility transmission and distribution systems. Dr. Stringfellow has published numerous articles and research papers during his distinguished career. He is a member of IEEE and is an active member on several committees. He earned a B.S. Honors Degree in Physics from the University of London and his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Electricity from University of Durham.

Case Study 3 -
Topic: PQ Past and Future, a Thinker
Speaker: Randy Strange, RSIS
Biography: Randy is the owner of ouR Specialty Industrial Sales (RSIS) which has been in business for 20 years and knowledge of electrical for 37 years. For the past 7 years Randy has been involved in the medical power industry. Randy represents, trains people in and tests the PG LifeLink Isolated Power product. This product is used in Operating rooms and other areas of the medical facilities. Randy also represents other Power Quality products.

Topic: The Case of the Pulsing UPS & The Case of the Failing Fiber Optic Modem
Speaker: David Hartwig, Hartwig Engineering
Biography: David Hartwig is the president and founder of Hartwig Engineering.
