SRP's Voltage Sag Benchmarking Index

Date: Thursday, September 27th, 2001 Time: 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM

Location: SRP Information Services Building (ISB), 1600 N. Priest Dr, Tempe, AZ

Speaker: Kristian M. Koellner

Topic: "SRP's Voltage Sag Benchmarking Index"
As aptly noted at a recent meeting of the Arizona Power Quality Association by Terry Chandler, of Power Quality, Inc., there is no standard for benchmarking or characterizing a given electrical system's voltage sag performance. Yes, people are working on the problem and there are proposed standards, but such reporting is not the norm in the utility industry. Kris Koellner, of SRP's Power Quality Department, will discuss SRP's new voltage sag benchmarking index, describe its origins and future at SRP, discuss the need for such benchmarking, and host discussion from the floor.

Speaker Bio:
Kris Koellner is an Engineer with SRP's Power Quality Department. His responsibilities include working with other Power Quality engineers and technicians on beyond-the-meter PQ investigations as well as PQ product testing & support, PQ monitoring system administration, and designing the departmental web site. Kris has 7+ years experience at SRP, mainly in the areas of Distribution and Transmission Planning. While in System Planning, his main achievements were in the area of reporting and tracking SRP system disturbances across all voltage levels. Prior to SRP, Kris worked at Motorola's Western Area Computer Center. Kris is also involved with SRP's Explorer Post #170 in the role of Head Advisor.

In May of 1998, Kris graduated from Arizona State University with a B.S.E. degree in Electrical Engineering. Kris was granted Engineer in Training (EIT) certification from the Arizona Board of Technical Registration in June of 1998. From July 1998 to December 1998 Kris was matrixed to Transmission & Generation Dispatching (TGD) to head up SRP's Disturbance Analysis Reporting and Root Cause Analysis Team. In December of 1999 Kris was granted Certified Energy Manager (CEM) status from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). In the future, Kris hopes to pursue professional engineering (PE) certification and possibly an MBA degree.
