Motors and Power Quality

Date: Thursday, February 22nd, 2001

Location: SRP Information Services Building (ISB), 1600 N Priest Dr, Tempe, AZ 85281

Speaker: Chris Weathers, APS

Topic: "Motors and Power Quality"

Motors consume about 65% of all the electrical energy used in Arizona. When motors fail, or trip, industrial, commercial, and agricultural customers are seriously impacted. Motors and their associated drives both cause power quality problems, and are also affected by power quality problems. Chris will give a brief overview of motor problems and some of their solutions.

Speaker Bio:
Chris Weathers worked for General Electric for ten years, with field engineering assignments in New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Texas. He worked on industrial and utility power systems. Chris left General Electric in 1978 to take a position as Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering Technology at the University of Pittsburgh. He taught rotating machine, power system analysis, and control system technology courses for four years.
