IEEE Standard 1100-1999, Recommended Practice for Powering and Grounding Electronic Equipment

Date: Thursday, June 28th, 2001

Location: SRP Information Services Building (ISB), 1600 N Priest Dr, Tempe, AZ 85281

Speaker: Robert Schuerger, EYP Mission Critical Facilities

Topic: "IEEE Standard 1100-1999, Recommended Practice for Powering and Grounding Electronic Equipment"

The "Emerald Book" is considered by many to be "the Bible of Power Quality." In order to keep up with the changes in technology, the IEEE works to revise the color books on a five year cycle. Meetings of the Working Groups (the people that do the actual revisions) for each color book are held twice a year, at the Industrial & Commercial Power Systems I&CPS) Conference in May and at the Industry Applications Society (IAS) Conference in October.

Speaker Bio:
Robert Schuerger received the B.S.E.E. degree from the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio. He is a registered Professional Engineer and has twenty-five years of experience in power engineering, specializing in electrical testing and maintenance. He has done start-up and commissioning for nuclear and fossil fuel generation plants, transmission and distribution substations and power distribution systems for a variety of industrial facilities.

Robert has been very active in the field of Power Quality for many years. He was one of the founding members and has twice served as president of the Arizona Power Quality Association. He was a member of the Working Group for the 1999 edition of the IEEE Emerald Book, Recommended Practice for Powering and Grounding Electronic Equipment, and is a member of the current Working Group, as Chapter 4 Chairman, to revise the 1999 edition. He has authored several technical papers and the textbook used for an eight-hour course on harmonics and power quality.
